Tutu Baibe has officially become the first female artist to lead South Sudan’s popular music chart for a second week in a row.

The Top 10 Music countdown which is usually based on regular song requests of the week on Eye Radio, and votes on Facebook has been predominately male artists chart.

Daniel Danis, who is the founder of the radio show, told HIJ that Tutu’s popularity is rising fast among South Sudan music lovers.

“Absolutely amazing. Her reception in just 6 weeks is outstanding. I don’t remember the last time fans made our female musician lead in the top2 position of the chart. It was only Queen Zee who first dominated with her song; “Ana Mashilu Rajil Taki” but that was in 2010.” he said.

Danis added that others female artists like Neetah Baby and Trisha Cee made it last year and early this year to the number 3 position. Tutu Baibe, a name that was little known back in South Sudan two months ago is now riding high in the country’s nuisance music industry.

She was first heard in the country on Eye Radio, but within a month, she is already topping the charts on the same radio with her hit song; “Acha Chak.” Her song is leading this week again.

Tutu is a 3rd year student at St. Lawrence University in Kampala, Uganda. She is studying public relations, but said in a recent interview that her passion is in music.

The rising star who didn’t have much of a fan-base in South Sudan up until recently –has surprisingly become the talk of most South Sudanese music lovers and critics.

Promoters such as K2 and Data Gordon have both publicly expressed their support for the young lady who has not once done a show in the country. Her hit song; “Acha Chak” sung in her native language –Dinka -talks about her passionate love for a boy that she has loved for years.

Tutu has an affluent in background through singing of her own choruses. She makes dancehall sound sexy and her voice can be compared to that Tiwa Sawage, Yemi Alade and Jackie Chandiru…and oh, she speaks fluent Luganda.

Her other hits include; “Selector,” “Sometime,” and the latest song – “Football.” Tutu Baibe has also collaborated with artists: Uncle TJ, Twice B & Gudman and Young Blood. She recently said she would love to make one hit song with Silver X.

Team #HIJ wishes her the best in this male-dominated Dancehall genre of music!
