I was introduced to Khot Dau Akuei known by his stage name K-hot by a friend who told me about him. I didn’t know much about him then, but when I heard his music, it was clear that he is talented. He is making waves across East Africa and quickly becoming a household name in South Sudan.

Born in the year 2000 to Mr. Akuei and Agot Deng in Duk Payuel, South Sudan, K-hot, with his family later fled the country due to civil war and sought refuge in Kenya.

While in primary and secondary in Kenya, Khot started rapping and became known during inter-school competitions where he always emerged a winner. Students gave him the nickname Khot Msani meaning South Sudanese rapper.

Years later, Khot, who had been singing since he was a little boy, was invited by her aunt in Canada to live with the family in Canada, where he made his music studio his second home. He started recording single after single.

He quickly became a rapper to watch out for. Known for his unique flow, style, delivery, lyrics, and South Sudanese accent, Khot is a different breed of a rapper. He truly deserves a lot of respect for the niche. He is currently charting charts in Nairobi, Kenya.

In January 2022, K-Hot released a single. It was called “Sip or Puff.” The song was recorded in Nairobi and released on the internet for free download. When I heard this track for the first time, I immediately recognized that it was going to be big!

The song went viral right away.

I am excited that Khot is getting recognition for their talent. He has been very open about his struggle as a young person, and it’s inspiring to see someone who has overcome so much adversity to get here today. We wish him the best of luck with all of his future endeavors!
