A South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) soldier has allegedly shot and killed his younger brother in Gogrial East County, Warrap State, following a family dispute reportedly centered on financial disagreements.

According to family members, the incident occurred on Monday morning in Apuk Giir Thiik. 1st Lieutenant Geng Tong Geng allegedly shot his younger brother, Arol Tong Geng, twice after an argument broke out during a family meeting intended to resolve ongoing tensions. The dispute reportedly began months earlier over the misuse of 1 million South Sudanese Pounds, which led to Arol’s imprisonment in Kuacjok Central Prison for four months. He was released a month ago at the family’s request, aiming to settle the issue privately.

Local authorities have not yet commented on the incident, but community members are calling for an investigation. Family and community leaders have expressed concern about the escalation of personal disputes into violence and are seeking justice and peace for the family.
