The SPLA is expected to open a new defence college to train soldiers on security studies next month.
The Spokesperson of the army, Brigadier General Lul Ruai, says the National Defense University College will be located at Gieda.
He says the institution’s building and infrastructure are already in place and intake for eligible officers will start next month.
The Defense institution will also offer courses in Management Science at a later stage.
“The first phase shall start with the opening of the faculty of security and strategic studies which would cater purely for defense studies,” Brigadier General Lul explained to Eye Radio.
“The second phase is going to be for management sciences; Banking and Finance, International Relations and Diplomacy.
“Then the third phase is that the National Defense University College is going to be a fully-pledged University in the next 10 to 15 years.”
Brigadier General Lul says the institution will enable the country save money that is used to train the army outside the country.
The Council of Ministers approved the establishment of the new university on Friday.
