At least two armed robbers belonging to the Sudan People’s Liberation Army in Opposition have been shot dead by a civilian in Yambio, the Deputy Police Commissioner in Gbudue state Brigadier Hussein Giris has confirmed.
Speaking to press in an interview, Brig. Giris said the SPLA-IO deputy commander Brigadier John Manase commonly known as “John By The Way” and his bodyguard who earlier shifted allegiance from Dr. Riek Machar to the government in Yambio were killed last Friday after they broke into a civilian house.
The Police Commissioner confirms that the former commander and his bodyguard went to the house of a civilian at 3:00 am with intention of looting and they started shooting at the house of the civilian.
Brig. Giris said the civilian acted in self-defence after which he rushed immediately to report the case to the police station, “After the police arrived at the scene, the two dead bodies were found in full military uniform, well-armed with two AK47 in their hands”.
Meanwhile, Brigadier James Mbiko Barakat one of the senior SPLA-IO commanders who also shifted allegiance to the government confirmed that the two belong to his forces in Yambio, but he regretted why his colleague Brig John Manase and his bodyguard accepted to be lured to temptation.
Last year a similar incidence happened also in Yambio where two SPLA soldiers were shot dead while looting church money from Mothers Union office in Hai Matala.
