Rowdy youth in Maban have burned down World Food Program’s offices and warehouse in Bunj Town, Maban County. According to our source in the county, the youth are demonstrating against the state of humanitarian employment in the county. The Source alleges that demonstration which started at 6 a.m., turned out violence against humanitarian assets and personnel in Bunj town.

WFP base in Bunj town has also been set on fire by the demonstrators but the fire has been extinguished

The youth in Maban are accusing South Sudanese nationals from other regions of taking most of the humanitarian jobs in Maban. The Head of WFP in Bunj town was reportedly attacked and injured during the demonstration and is receiving treatment at a health facility in Bunj town.

It’s reported that at least, 26 vehicles belonging to UN agencies and NGOs have been vandalized during the attack. Several accommodations of staff members in town have been looted and the extent of the looting and damage has not yet been established. Local police and UNMISS Force Protection have been deployed to calm the situation.
