Vatican spokesperson Greg Burke confirmed that Pope Francis will not be visiting the country this year.
Burke said the deterioration of the country’s security would make the trip too dangerous.
The Pope had planned to visit the country with Archbishop of a Canterbury Justin Welby, it could have marked the first time Catholic and Anglican leaders made such a trip together.
The Pope intended to visit the country in October to promote peace, as he did in 2015, in a visit to the Central African Republic.
The Pope made an Africa tour in 2015, meeting President Kiir at Uganda’s State House.
