A 16-year-old daughter of the former SPLA Chief of General Staff Paul Malong Awan has died in a dormitory fire in Kenya’s capital Nairobi. Another daughter is said to be in hospital nursing burn injuries.
Alakiir Malong, a form one student at Moi Girls’ Secondary School died with six other Kenyan students when a fire broke out in their dormitory on Saturday morning.
According to Kenyan media reports, the cause of the fire which happened in the girls’ boarding school has not been established yet. The Kenyan government through education Minister Fed Matiangi said a team of forensic experts, including the government pathologists were at the school to establish the cause of the deadly fire.
The bodies of the 7 students including Malong’s daughter which are burnt beyond recognition are said to have been transferred to a mortuary awaiting DNA identification.
