A senior National Revenue Authority (NRA) official is facing immediate suspension this week after ordering companies linked to powerful officials to file their taxes, a source has told Hot in Juba.
According to a senior government official who spoke on the condition of anonymity the NRA boss Dr Patrick K. Mugoya, acting on the directives from a high authority, has been directed to immediately suspend Lino Ajang Ajang, the Deputy Commissioner for Domestic Tax Division of NRA after pursuing a number of companies linked to some powerful people in the country.
The companies which include Ethiopian Airlines have never paid taxes and owe NRA a whopping fifty Million Dollars ($50,000,000) in tax revenues.
Last month Lino Ajang announced that NRA had blocked accounts of ten companies over alleged tax evasion.
The source revealed that Ajang’s suspension will be a big blow to NRA integrity and will undermine efforts by tax officials in performing their duties.
Under Ajang’s leadership, the Domestic Tax Division has achieved an upward growth in tax collection in the last quarter – a report which was confirmed to media recently by the vice President for Economic Cluster Dr. James Wani Igga.
