National football team player shot in Nairobi

Australia based South Sudanese football player who was recently called to the national football team, Bright Stars has been shot last night in Nairobi, Kenya according close relatives of the player.

Ajak Panek was shot in a shootout between the police and armed robbers who had carjacked the player and his friends and demanded ransom for their release.

The player who was picking up a friend from airport between 10pm and 11pm was in company of STA Awards founder Marko Madut and other friends. Ajak was shot by the police officers as they confront robbers. He was shot in the hand and thigh and he’s said to be in a stable condition.

A friend to the player only identified as Adukwut who was being picked at the airport was shot in the head and he is currently in the hospital fighting for his life. His situation is critical according to sources who spoke to HIJ.

“We were kidnapped as we were dropping a friend we picked from the airport to hotel. The robbers demanded Ksh.60,000 ($600)” STA founder Marko Marko was quoted saying.

“The police was informed and they started to track the car, when they caught up with us a shootout ensued started and Ajak and Adukwut were hit by the police bullet” he explained.

Kenyan police have launched a manhunt for the two armed robbers.
