A 22-year-old woman resident of Sherikat was arraigned in Juba Magistrate’s court on Tuesday for allegedly trying to sell her 16-month-old infant to another woman at Konyokonyo trading center.
”The woman tried to sell her 16-month-old infant at Konyokonyo trading center as she negotiated with another woman,” said a witness.
Nearby woman alerted the police and a trap was set and the suspect was arrested after accepting payment in two installment of 5000SSP each. The signed agreement paper was handed over by two undercover police officers who acted as buyers was later found with the woman.
Although it has not been disclosed why she wanted to sell the baby, people who knew her said it have been due to poverty. The woman lives with her two adult brothers, four children and her mom.
