The Department of Mental Health in the National Ministry of Health has begun a vigorous campaign this morning to
remove severely mentally ill homeless people from the streets.
The drive aims to try to provide care for mentally ill homeless people who appear unwilling or unable to take care of
themselves.
Dr Atong Ayuel, the Director of mental health in the National Ministry of Health, says the hospital has seen a steady
increase in new mental illness cases.
“The Department of Mental has the project of rescuing the homeless mentally ill patients in the streets of Juba town,”
said Dr. Ayuel.
“We are expecting the number to increase because even nowadays we are seeing new cases on the streets of Juba
town,” he added saying “we used to have our 23 to 30 patients but I am expecting that they may reach forty this
month, because we are even seeing new cases on the road nowadays.”
