Bossmaan Sounds System signed singer Aguto Kuol aka MC Ghetto has publicly decried exploitation by event organisers and in particular the Nairobi based South Sudanese entertainment company, South Theatre Academy (STA).

In a social media post the dancehall singer, an affiliate to popular DJ MG said event companies were using artists for their own benefits.

“WHAT IS MUSIC IF YOU DONT GET PAID? DO THIS (sic) ORGANIZATIONS‬ THINK OF SOUTH SUDANESE ARTISTES WEN THEY INVITE THEM TO THEIR SHOWS? DO YOU KNOW WHY PEOPLE LEAVE THEIR HOUSES AT NIGHT TO GO FOR UR SHOWS? IS BECAUSE OF THOSE ARTISTS YOU DONT CONSIDER AFTER MAKING MONEY,” the singer posted on social media.

Its not clear why the musician, also an event organizer came out to publicly denounce STA, a company which he has been collaborating in organizing events in the past. HIJ sorted a clarification from the musician and he indeed confirmed he was talking about STA:

“These organizations are using people here, they’re conning artists. They call it award wen u don’t get paid, STA awards,” he told HIJ.

Several other Nairobi based musicians responded to MC in comments acknowledging his frustrations except for rapper Domination who was at odds last year with MC over the same issue of “using” artists.

“Said the same thing, they including u called me a rebel, did shows wit u n u neva pay me…glad u finally learned it #Struggles,” Domination commented.

STA founders have not yet responded to MC Ghetto’s public outburst.
