Former Water and Irrigation Minister and top Riek Machar’s rebel figure Mabior Garang has a new religion after quitting Christianity.

Mabior who was born in a Christain family decided become animist and started worshiping his late father John Garang de Mabior.

After going into hiding last year fearing being kidnapped and deported to Juba by government agents, Mabior who says he now lives in unnamed southern Africa country posts everything about his new found religion and his daily activities on Instagram.

His page on photo social networking site is characterized by posts about Rastafari beliefs and animism.

In his latest post, the son of South Sudan’s founding father said he is animist and worships ancestors. In the photo posted on Instagram, he is seen praying to his father’s framed image on his worship altar.

Animism is the religious belief that objects, places, and creatures all possess a distinct spiritual essence. Potentially, animism perceives all things—animals, plants, rocks, rivers, weather systems, human handiwork, and perhaps even words—as animated and alive.

While Rastafari is a Jamaican religion based on worshiping former Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie whose followers call the lion of Judah.

Last year when he first arrived at his hideout, Mabior was obsessed with cooking organic and vegetarian foods which he posted regularly on his IG. He was even posting recipes that teach his followers on organic foods cooking. You would have thought he quit politics and became a full-time cook.
