A number of Journalist in South Sudan have voiced their concern after the arrest and detention of The Dawn Newspaper Editor in Chief, Monychol Akop.

The journalists appeals for the release of a detained editor, prompting an outpouring of support online and sympathetic statements from prominent media practitioners and South Sudanese netizen.

“I remember he apologized to the Foreign Minister for his illegal comments on her. I also called Her Excellency Mrs. Awut. Please forgive and continue with your normal life, which is unique when you hold the highest public political office, so you have to endure the results of pain,” Marko Mawien posted on social media.

According to sources, Emmanuel Monychol Akop was arrested on instructions from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, four days after commenting on informal and unofficial clothing worn by Hon. Awut Deng Acuil.
