A source at the Ministry of Information says the government intends to continue blocking online media platforms it considers sources of false news and incitements. This came after the government blocked accessibility of Radio Tamazuj, Nyamilpedia, Paanluelwel and Sudan Tribune news websites in South Sudan.
The source who preferred anonymity told HIJ that the government will continue to block websites that fail to adhere to South Sudan Communication Authority regulations. It plans to block one social media platform, Facebook if Junubin continue using for spread false news and propaganda.
The surprise move by the government came after Ministry of Information accuses the websites of inciting violence and spreading hate speech.
Facebook has been used negatively since 2013 by South Sudanese when fighting erupted in Juba. It has always been used to spread false news, hate speech and propaganda.
