The SPLM IO in Government led by General Gathoth Gatkuoth Hothnyang has formally rejoined the ruling SPLM Party under the leadership of President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the Presidency announced on Saturday.
The reunification of the parties came on Saturday following a meeting held at the State House in Juba between President Kiir and former rebel commander, General Gathoth Gatkuoth Hothnyang.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the newly appointed Governor of Latjor State, General Gathoth Gatkuoth explained that, they were warmly welcomed back to the SPLM Party by President Salva Kiir Mayardit and that their files would be forwarded to the SPLM secretariat for administrative purposes.
He reaffirmed that they are now part of the SPLM party after joining the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) under the leadership of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
For his part, the former Interim Secretary General of the SPLM-IO in Government, David Okot disclosed that their splinter faction didn’t fully agree with the procedures, and decision taken by General Taban Deng Gai to reunify the parties.
The group admitted that they were holding grudges against First Vic-president General Taban Deng Gai over the reunification of the parties.
“In addition, David Okot emphasized that they acknowledge the misunderstanding they had with the former Chairman of SPLM IO in Government General Taban and they have now come to the SPLM mainstream at their own pace and procedures,” the Presidency said.
