Aweil East State’s youthful and ambitious Minister of Agriculture Garang Malong Awan’s latest book “Why South Sudan Matters” has finally made it to the world stage as over 500 copies distributed to delegates at the recently concluded United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The copies of the book were delivered to the United Nations General Assembly by South Sudanese ambassador to the US and the book’s editor who supported Garang’s passion for writing and love for South Sudan.
“This is a milestone for South Sudanese writers and the South Sudanese people because it’s the first time a book is being launched by the youngest nation at UN General Assembly”, Garang said.
All the South Sudanese delegation that accompanied the First Vice President Taban Deng to New York also got copies of the book.
“Why South Sudan Matters” is Garang’s fourth book which comes four years after the launch of his first book “The Theatre of Hope” while he was still a student at the University of Nairobi in Kenya. Garang has also authored “Heirs of Fallen Heroes”, a book that talks about empowerment of the orphans of South Sudan’s liberation war martyrs through education and “Patriotism, South Sudan My Country”.
Besides being a writer and a minister, Garang is also credited for the formation of Gatkubai International, a non-governmental organisation that focuses on environment, peace and education.
