A young football fan has died and scores injured in a clash between two group of fans from Dinka and Nuer ethnic group during a football match in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya on Sunday evening.

The match which was organised by Lutheran World Federation was between Naath Boyz FC which is predominantly Nuer and All Starz FC which is predominantly Dinka. The match was being played at Naath Boyz’s playing ground for the Kakuma Premier League.

A Source who preferred anonymity said the clash ensued following an altercation between two groups during a football match at Nuer Boyz’s field in the evening.At one stage, the rival groups attacked one another, prompting the Kenyan police to intervene and disperse the fans.

“The fans started the fighting during the first half of the game. They started throwing stones at each other and many people were injured but one person was critically Injured and succumbed to injuries in hospital,” He added.

Kakuma Premier League (KPL) sponsored at humanitarian agencies is a football league which engages the youth in showcasing their football talents and promotes peaceful co-existence among the refugees. The first opening match was played on July 30th 2016.
