Ethiopia’s government-owned news agency FBC says the Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has submitted a letter of resignation from his post as the country’s leader and the chair of his political party.
Hailemariam succeeded the late Meles Zinawi in 2012. His party the Ethiopian Peoples’ Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) is holding an emergency meeting.
Hailemariam said he will be the Acting Prime Minister until transitional arrangements have been finalized.
