Bol Deng Bol, a Civil Society Activist in Bor town Jonglei State has condemned what he called ‘unlawful attack’ on the media in the area following the indefinite closure of Radio Jonglei this afternoon.

“I condemn this unlawful attack on the media in the state and calls on the National Security to release the Journalists under detention and, without conditions, allow the Radio Station back on air,” Bol Deng said in a statement.

According to him, the National Security Service officials ordered for closure of the station without stating reasons.

“This afternoon, NSS stormed Radio Jonglei, ordering indefinite closure of the Radio station. In the process, communication devices of the Staffs found at the station at the time were confiscated (phones), Mr Matuor Mabior Anyang, the Station Manager, Mr. Ayuen Garang Kur, the Program Manager and Mr. Deng Ghai Deng, Editor-in-Chief were later arrested and detained at NSS Office in Bor. In addition, the Cashier, Ms. Aluel Kut Angeth is detained within the Radio Station,” Bol Deng said.

The National  Security Service in the area were not immediately available for comment to establish the reasons for the closure.
