Prominent state journalist Garang John alleges that a truck loaded with about 800 bags of contaminated sugar left Kenya for South Sudan through Uganda.
According to a Kenyan investigative journalist who spoke on condition of anonymity, errand traders are trying to smuggle contraband sugar that is feared to be laced with heavy metals like copper, mercury and lead into the neighboring countries after local authorities raised alarm.
Kenyan authorities recently detected and halted the circulation of what they termed as ‘unfit sugar for human consumption.’
Indian businessman is currently under investigation in Kenya as some errand traders explore alternative markets in the region.
A Large quantity of the suspected sugar is alleged to be in stores in the Kenyan Port of Mombasa destined for landlocked countries.

Garang asks South Sudan Bureau of Standards to be on high alert to counter such illicit goods from entering the country.
