A close source in the government has disclosed to HIJ that Agel Ring Machar resigned from SPLM-IO to joined the Government under the leadership of president Salva Kiir and VP Taban Deng.

This came after Agel announced on Social media his resignation from SPLM-IO.
“I had earlier on today submitted my resignation from the SPLM/A-IO under the leadership of Dr Riek Machar Teny. I thanked and wished him and the rest of the remaining leadership of the movement best of luck”, he wrote.

Agel Machar, former South Sudan’s youth leader who helped in recruiting of Mathiang-Anyoor, plans of defecting to the government was intercepted while he was trying his way out of SPLM-IO last year.

Recently SPLM-IO under Riek Machar has suffered series of defections demoralising the movement.
