Michael Wetnhialic, a prominent human rights activist has been released after spending over seven months in detention. Wetnhialic was freed on Thursday, November 7, 2024, along with other detainees, following directives from the newly appointed Director-General of the National Security Service (NSS).

Wetnhialic, who had been held in solitary confinement since March 24, expressed his gratitude to supporters and the NSS administration for facilitating his release.

Reflecting on his ordeal, Wetnhialic acknowledged the challenging nature of his time in detention but emphasized a commitment to peace, reconciliation, and forgiveness as he moves forward. He also thanked friends, family, and human rights organizations for their unwavering support during his detention, highlighting the collective spirit of solidarity as invaluable.
