Three months after their stupendous performance in the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Ethiopia where they finished at the quarter finals, Bright Stars start preparations for their upcoming Group C double header against Benin in the 2017 AFCON qualifiers on 23 of this month.
South Sudan’s interim coach Felix Komoyangi has confirmed the team starts non residential training tomorrow.
“We start training tomorrow” he told media. “We are going to start with the domestic players as we wait for our professional players to join us. They will all be available on today, March 15 and that’s when we expect to start residential training” he added.
South Sudan joined CAF and FIFA in 2012 after gaining its independence from Sudan a year earlier. The Bright Stars played their first ever international match in their 2-all draw with Uganda in July. The game resulted in FIFA welcoming South Sudan to its family.
After their recognition by FIFA , the Bright Stars amazed the football world when they beat 2013 AFCON hosts Equatorial Guinea 1-0 in their Group C game to record their first ever competitive win.
