America ambassador to UN, Nikki Haley has told the UNSC that South Sudan government is “an unfit partner” for peace. In a tirade she accused the government of violating the ceasefire recently signed.

Conflated the promotion of three senior army officers whom the USA has sanctioned as “a slap in the face” to the UNSC. Added that it was time the UN should impose arms embargo on South Sudan.

American allies the British and the French concurred with Haley and echoed her sentiments. The Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China expressed their disappointment that the ceasefire has been violated but were reluctant to support arms embargo.

Russia in particular said that stabilising the ceasefire and supporting a comprehensive and inclusive national reconciliation were much desirable. Russian Deputy Ambassador urged for cooperation with IGAD and supporting the regional peace efforts.
